About Dexter Sear

Montana's Beartooth Wilderness

This website contains the fruit of an ever-expanding quest for visual exploration.

For me, passion was sparked in England, while galavanting around the Norfolk countryside, collecting and attentively rearing Sphinx moth caterpillars.

As a teenager, magic windows into natural history exploration opened further while exploring the chaparral biome of Southern California. Volunteering at the Los Angeles County Museum of Natural History (LACM) Entomology Museum exposed me to passionate entomologists and literally millions of exotic invertebrates. Ever-expanding field trips offered a fruitful playground for forays into macro photography as a way to share the often miniature insect realm.

Observing a prevalent and irrational fear of insects, I pursued any opportunity that encouraged people to reconsider the complex human-insect relationship. Insect macro photography became my primary visual theme. For many years the ‘focus’ remained on insect imagery, fueling cherished explorations to Brazil, Ecuador and Indonesia.

A pull towards a broader appreciation for natural beauty inevitably burst the creative seams and a rich interconnected world of natural patterns – shape, color, texture – became the new and current ‘focus’.

For almost a decade, I traveled the world with National Geographic/Lindblad Expeditions on their expedition ships as a videographer. Exploring, discovering, learning and forever telling stories.

Plunge into the sensual stream of pure-pulse moments this amazing planet generously orchestrates.
