Fruits of inspiration from an ever-expanding quest for visual exploration.
Initial passion for the natural world was sparked in England, while galavanting around the East Anglian countryside, collecting and attentively rearing Sphinx moth caterpillars with my mates.
As a teenager, magic windows into natural history exploration opened further while exploring the chaparral biome of Southern California. Volunteering at the Los Angeles County Museum of Natural History (LACM) Entomology Museum, and later at the Bishop Museum in Honolulu, exposed me to passionate entomologists and literally millions of exotic invertebrates. Ever-expanding field trips offered a fruitful playground for forays into macro photography as a way to share the often miniature insect realm.
Observing and surrounded by a prevalent and irrational fear of insects, I pursued any opportunity that encouraged people to reconsider complex human-insect relationships. Insect macro photography became a primary visual theme. For many years the ‘focus’ remained on insect imagery, fueling cherished explorations to South America ( Brazil, Ecuador) and Indonesia.
A pull towards a broader appreciation for natural beauty inevitably burst the creative seams and a rich interconnected world of natural patterns – shape, color, texture – became the new and current ‘focus’.
For almost a decade, I traveled the world with National Geographic/Lindblad Expeditions and later on Seabourn Cruises on their expedition ships as a videographer. Exploring, discovering, learning and forever telling stories.
